Wii Fit is a unique, revolutionary game for the Nintendo Wii. It expands on the health, fitness and fun combination introduced by Wii Sports, but encorporates the whole body. Wii Fit exercises provide a “core workout” - those that favour slower, controlled movements, and can improve both general fitness and coordination. Getting fit with wii fit is both fun and measurable.

The exercises demonstrated so far include:

  • Yoga
  • Push-ups
  • Step aerobics
  • Goal keeping
  • Hula hooping
  • Ski jumping
  • Jogging
  • Tightrope walkin
  • Snowboarding

There are over 40 games in total - the above list is just a sample. All games available on the wii integrate fully with the “mii” system, and allow you to track your fitness progress (or fitness age).

Although it looks like a set of scales, the Wii Fit balance board is an advanced piece of equipment, filled with sensitive pressure sensors, allowing it not only to measure weight, but sense subtle movement in your body. Various other game developers have shown an interest in incorporating the balance board into their games, so it’s likely to become an integral piece of hardware. Imagine the possibilities - a crouch board in a shooting game, a skateboard in a skating game…

Wii Fit sold over quarter of a million copies in Japan, and Nintendo have tipped it to be the top selling game of the year. At the time of writing (5 weeks until release) it’s already Amazon’s best selling video game.
